An issue for all companies

Internal Integration Management (BEM)

Independent of the company’s size and industrial sector, all employers are obliged to apply Internal Integration Management (BEM) according to the
Social Security Code IX, § 167, Par. 2.

BEM is an element of the employer’s fiduciary duty towards sick employees. It does not apply to persons with disabilities only, but to everyone being unable to work for more than six weeks continuously or repeatedly.

Preserving jobs

The BEM’s objective is developing a strategy to overcome inability to work and to prevent repeated inability to work with appropriate support and benefits. At the same time, jobs are to be preserved and sick employees’ competences put to use in a sensible way.

Focus on health

The focus of this process is on employees’ health and thus their ability to work and employability. The objective is restoring, reinforcing and preserving the ability to work after a long-term illness. We provide information and counselling on

  • introduction and implementation of Internal Integration Management
  • labour-management agreements regarding Internal Integration Management
  • simultaneous case-management
  • available support programmes by the Professional Integration Services, rehabilitation institutions or the Integration Office
